Plymouth Airport Fun Day: Sun., Sept. 5, rain date Sept. 6. We will play a big part so we need lots of volunteers. Two air shows; static displays, including the Terrafugia roadable aircraft and probably a CAP plane; spectacular R/C plane demos; golf ball drop; helicopter and plane rides; soda bottle rockets for the kids; food vendors; raffles for a ride on the Collings bombers, R/C plane, trip to the Islands. Most of the profits to benefit a local food pantry and American Legion Post 40, whose meeting place was destroyed by flooding this spring. Besides us, the Legion, Alpha-1, Aero Club, HeliOps, Ryan Rotors, Women in Aviation, Wingbusters and the Airport are combining for this event.
We will have a command post at the corner of the Admin building. Among other things, we will do crowd control, help kids build & launch soda bottle rockets, help Wingbusters at their tent with flight simulators and even answer phones. The Aero Club will provide lunch for the volunteers.
I plan to group everyone into teams and rotate the teams so people aren't stuck doing the same thing all day. There are two shows planned, one at 11:30 and another at 2. Nothing spectacular, mostly fly-bys, but the R/C demonstrations should be very interesting. On the schedule is a jet more than 8 ft long that goes more than 100mph. The Lee Gull also is unbelievable -- smoke and all.
Should be a fun time. I think any cadet or senior who comes will be glad they did. FYI, CAP will retain command & control of all CAP personnel but teams may be assigned to help under direction of others, such as helping the Aero Club or Legion park cars or Airport personnel keeping the crowd back during the airshows.
